Frankenstein

Now over 200 years old, Mary Shelley’s Gothic tale of the Modern Prometheus has inspired countless retellings and reimaginings. This new cover design features a wire and faux leather crocheted sculpture, handcrafted and designed to portray the crude fashionings, loneliness, and inner torment of the infamous Frankenstein’s Monster.

Faux leather cord crocheted with a 5.5mm hook, around an aluminium wire armature. Crocheted fabric is tough and dense, and combined with malleable wire, it can hold its form well. The shape of the sculpture was designed to frame an empty space where the brain should sit, and highlight the one missing element that Frankenstein’s Monster yearns for most - a soul.
